I'm running Acrobat 8 Standard, and following these steps exactly did not do the trick for me. I even changed my Windows login name and rebooted, and Acrobat kept the old, cryptic default login name that came standard on my work computer.

Does anyone know the trick for getting this to work in Acrobat 8?

Khanna, that is not a normal problem. Many users run their Macs for weeks without having to restart or shut down, only sleeping it at night. There may be software that is conflicting with the system. You may have to troubleshoot using methods such as process of elimination to try and isolate the problem. For example, does it happen if you use the Mac from a different user account? Does it happen if you log in with the Shift key held down to disable login items? You might also watch Activity Monitor's displays to see if any processes are using an unusually high amount of CPU or RAM.

If you're unable to diagnose it yourself and the Mac is under warranty, it would be a good idea to contact Apple support, because that is definitely not normal operation.

Hi Suanne, one thing about Mac OS X 10.7.2 Lion is that it runs only software that was written for Macs using Intel processors. It looks like Illustrator 10.3 came out in 2001, which means it was written before Macs with Intel processors came out. I don't think Illustrator 10.3 will install or run on Lion. The first Illustrator version that might run on Lion looks like Illustrator CS3 (which is really Illustrator 13), but that doesn't mean it would run without issues, and Adobe doesn't sell CS3 anymore.

If you need to run Illustrator on your Lion Mac reliably right now, CS5 would be the version to use, and the only one available to buy new. I've gotten emails about Creative Suite upgrade discounts, so if you decide to upgrade to the whole suite, search around to see if you can find upgrade discount codes. Good luck!
